Recovery starts with understanding the full picture

Substance use disorders rarely exist in isolation.

Many people struggling with alcohol or drug use are also navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, grief, chronic stress, or other mental health concerns. In many cases, substance use becomes a way to cope with difficult emotions, numb pain, escape stress, or manage symptoms that have never been fully addressed.

At HBH, we treat more than the substance. We work to understand what is driving the pattern.

Through a comprehensive assessment, our clinical team evaluates:

  • Substance use history
  • Mental health symptoms
  • Trauma history
  • Family and relationship dynamics
  • Relapse patterns
  • Strengths and support systems
  • Daily functioning
  • Treatment goals
  • Risk and safety concerns

From there, we design a treatment plan built around your specific needs.

Substance use concerns we support

HBH provides outpatient care for adults experiencing concerns related to:

Alcohol use

Support for adults struggling with alcohol dependence, binge drinking, chronic relapse patterns, or alcohol use that is impacting relationships, work, health, or emotional well-being.

Opioid use

Treatment and recovery support for adults navigating opioid-related concerns as part of a broader outpatient treatment plan.

Stimulant use

Support for adults struggling with substances such as cocaine, methamphetamine, or prescription stimulants used outside of medical guidance.

Benzodiazepine use

Care for adults facing dependence concerns related to benzodiazepines and the emotional challenges often connected to their use.

Cannabis and other substances

Treatment for adults experiencing difficulty controlling cannabis use or other substance-related behaviors that are affecting daily life.

Co-occurring substance use and mental health concerns

Many clients arrive with both substance use and mental health symptoms. Our treatment model is designed to address both at the same time rather than treating them separately.

Our approach to substance use treatment

Every treatment plan is individualized.

Depending on clinical need, care may include:

  • Individual therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Relapse prevention planning
  • Emotional regulation work
  • Trauma-informed treatment
  • Family or support involvement when appropriate
  • Accountability structures
  • Skills development
  • Recovery planning
  • Care coordination with outside providers when appropriate
  • Step-down and continuing care planning

Treatment is designed to help clients build stability, develop healthier coping strategies, strengthen recovery skills, and create meaningful change that can last beyond treatment.

Outpatient treatment connected to real life

Recovery does not happen in isolation.

Because HBH is an outpatient program, clients remain connected to their daily lives while receiving structured support. This allows them to practice recovery skills in real-world environments and bring those experiences back into treatment for guidance, accountability, and adjustment.

Our model is intentionally designed to help recovery become part of everyday life rather than something that exists separately from it.

Levels of care for substance use treatment

Substance use and mental health often overlap

One of the most common mistakes in treatment is focusing only on the substance while ignoring the emotional or psychological factors underneath it.

Many clients come to HBH experiencing:

  • Anxiety and alcohol use
  • Depression and substance use
  • Trauma and addiction
  • Relationship distress and relapse patterns
  • Behavioral addictions alongside substance use
  • Emotional dysregulation and compulsive behaviors

When these concerns are treated together, clients often gain a deeper understanding of what has been driving the cycle and what is needed to move forward.
