Most people with benzodiazepine dependence never misused anything on purpose. They took a medication as prescribed, and over weeks or months their body adapted to it. That is not a moral failing, it is pharmacology, and it is exactly why coming off these drugs needs medical guidance rather than willpower.

A Safety First Warning

This is the most important point on the page. Stopping benzodiazepines suddenly can cause seizures and other serious, potentially fatal complications. If you are physically dependent, do not quit cold turkey. The safe path is a slow, medically supervised taper. We help coordinate that with the right medical providers before and alongside outpatient treatment.

Signs of Benzodiazepine Dependence

How Safe Treatment Works

Recovery has two parts: coming off safely, and treating what the medication was managing. After a supervised taper, outpatient care addresses the underlying anxiety, insomnia, or trauma without returning to the dependence. Our Houston groups include skills groups in CBT, DBT, and ACT, plus Mindfulness, Guided Meditation, and Body Scan work that rebuild the natural calm benzodiazepines had replaced. We are an outpatient program and coordinate the medical taper rather than providing detox on site.

Treating the Anxiety Underneath

Benzodiazepines are usually prescribed for anxiety or sleep, so lasting recovery means treating those directly. Our anxiety treatment and, where trauma is involved, our trauma therapy give you real tools so you do not have to rely on the medication. Our dual diagnosis care treats both together.

Why Individualized Intensive Programming Fits

Everyone’s history with these medications is different, so a one-size plan does not work. Our flagship Individualized Intensive Programming builds care around your taper, your anxiety, and your goals, at PHP or IOP intensity.

How Payment Works at Heights Behavioral Health

Heights Behavioral Health is a private-pay, out-of-network provider and is not in network with insurance plans. Some clients have out-of-network benefits that can offset part of the cost, and we are upfront about pricing before you commit. See our out-of-network guide.

When You Need More Than Outpatient Care

Active or severe withdrawal needs medical supervision first, and any safety crisis needs a higher level of care, which we will help you find. For non-clinical support, our sister practice Heights Mentoring may be a fit.
